A Timeline of events at Bretton,
including images
Bretton Estate Archive Website
The Bretton Estate has an
interesting history which goes back over 700 years. The
origins of the Estate were in the 13th Century when the
Dronsfields, a wealthy family, gradually built up land
and property in the southern part of the West Riding.
From 1407 the resident family were the Wentworths, and
then the Beaumonts took up residence in 1792, remaining
until the eventual sale of the Estate to the West Riding
County Council in 1948.
Lord Allendale's loan
collection has now been transferred to the
Yorkshire Archaeological Society, which is based at
Claremont, 23 Clarendon Road, Leeds LS2 9NZ. For
