The function of the Archive is to present:
-
aspects of Bretton Hall as a training college for teachers from the time when students were first admitted in 1949 to closure in 2007;
-
images of the past, provided by alumni;
-
profiles of notable owners of Bretton Hall;
-
notable stories and/or events in the days of ownership by the Wentworth and Beaumont families; these will include newspaper reports and/or photographs (where copyright regulations allow).
Information has been gathered from a variety of sources, including published and unpublished articles, personal recollections of alumni and the kind assistance of Leonard Bartle, archivist at the National Arts Education Archive (NAEA@ysp). In this latter case, I should like to express my thanks for Mr. Bartle's ongoing patience, understanding and willingness to be of assistance in readily supplying materials and information.
