The keystone over the entrance to King’s Head Hostel was given by a mason employed on the Bretton site during the extensions of the early 1960s. It is reputed to have been taken from York Guild Hall during the restoration in the late 1950s. |

The carving of the Grasshopper was built into an old cottage on the south side of the lower lake. This was demolished many years ago, but the carving, although damaged, was stored for a possible use later. One corner was broken off and all the legs were missing, but it was skilfully restored by a College student and the site Clerk of Works in 1960.
